Portree Shore Excursion tour itinerary
Our journey starts and finishes in Portree, a bustling fishing port and cultural centre which counts itself as the largest town on Skye. Your guide will meet you as you get off your tender boat and will direct you to the coach which will be situated approximately 5 minutes away by foot.
Our journey begins by heading north up the Trotternish Peninsula where you are transported into a different world from the bustling tourist town you have just left. Life takes on a traditional feel so look out for shepherds with their sheep and the locals cutting the peats the traditional way too!
Old Man of Storr
Only 10 minutes into our tour and we hit an other-worldly landscape fashioned by volcanic activity millions of years ago. Our first stop is a photo stop that gives you a chance to admire the unique rock formations including the Old Man of Storr, a 50 metre high rock pinnacle which juts out from the awe-inspiring Trotternish Ridge
Our next stop is Kilt Rock; an exposed sea cliff which resembles the traditional Highland kilt, and which wows our guests each and every time. It also boasts a waterfall that tumbles 60 metres (180 feet) into the Sound of Raasay below – a truly enthralling sight, and one made even more special when the wind blows the waterfall back up the cliff!
Our next stop is certainly one of the absolute highlights on Skye. You may recognise it from fills such as Stardust and Prometheus and many others too! The Quiraing is a series of landslips that have combined to form an awe-inspiring scenery. When mist swirls around the volcanic rock it creates an almost surreal experience and on clear days the views are amazing. A 25 minute stop here ensures you have plenty of time to explore for yourself.
Duntulm Castle is now a ruin, but it sits on an exceptionally beautiful stretch of coastline, from which you can enjoy epic views of the Outer Hebrides on a clear day. A short stop here will give you a chance to experience this gem, as well as find out all about the ghostly goings on that have been reported inside the castle walls.
Flora MacDonald's Grave
Our next stop is the grave of the legendary Flora MacDonald, who famously helped Bonnie Prince Charlie to escape after the battle of Culloden. This historic graveyard is also the final resting place of a number of other well known historic characters and, on a good day, there are great views over to the Outer Hebrides from here.
The Cuillin Mountains
Our journey around Skye culminates in one of the best view points in the whole country, that of the Cuillin Mountains. Here there is an opportunity to go on an off-the-beaten-track hike with the guide to one of our favourite spots on the island, or perhaps you’d rather relax with a locally crafted whisky or ale in Seamus’s Bar which has views to die for! We will spend around 45 minutes here.

The day went by so quickly as every moment was filled with gorgeous scenery, fascinating and entertaining stories and history by our wonderful guide Sandy. There were so many amazing stops and all was paced very well. This was one of the highlights of our two week Scotland trip. We would most definitely recommend it to anyone. Outrageously beautiful!
We loved our day trip to Skye. At first we thought the day would be too long – turns out it was perfect. The tour was well organized, the sights were awesome, and the food was great. Most importantly, our guide Gordon was super knowledgeable and extremely entertaining. The Isle of Skye tour was well worth the price of the ticket. We’re so glad that we did it – we would absolutely recommend it to everyone!
This was one of the most amazing day tours I’ve been on. The Isle of Skye takes a while to get there from Inverness, but it is totally worth it! The views are stunning and it wasn’t very crowded when we were there. Being at the top of the hills looking over to the ocean was incredible and the people there were very friendly as well. By far one of my favorite places in the world!
I can’t recommend the WOW Scotland Isle of Skye Tour highly enough. Our guide was very knowledgeable, yet also had a nice sense of humor and was a great storyteller.
