One of the most common questions we get asked about our shore tours from Invergordon, South Queensferry, and Greenock is – what size of vehicle we use, and what are the maximum group sizes. This blog outlines exactly what we do and why, and also why you may well find a bigger tour bus actually leads to a much better experience!!
For all of our shore tours in 2018 we will be using full size coaches, with a separate tour guide and driver. However, it doesn’t mean that your are in for a ‘big bus’ experience just because we are using a ‘big bus’! We go out of our way to make these tours as personal as they can be, and try to offer a more superior product than companies operating with smaller vehicles.
Here’s how we do it!
1.The Best Tour Guides Bar None
At WOW Scotland Tours we only employ the absolute best tour guides. We don’t say this, we mean it, and we only employ the best. To work with WOW you’ve got to have exceptional knowledge, although more importantly you have to have a great personality, and the ability to get on with people from all walks of life. Your guides onboard will either be Gordon (WOW Scotland founder), Sandy (WOW’s longest serving guide and simply the best), Jonathan (professional tour guide trainer), Rob (an award winning tour guide!), Paul (master of the 5 star TripAdvisor review), Bill (our resident Outlander expert!) and Donald (new for 2018 but has years of industry experience).
2.Highest standard of coach and driver
We have been working with one coach company for years now, to ensure we get the best experience for our customers on our shore tours. Last year, they upgraded our main coach – meaning that we now have one of the most comfortable touring coaches available in Scotland. We also work with the same drivers each and every time. Our drivers are the very best, and go out of their way to ensure our tours are seamless. Lookout out for the driving dream team of Graeme and Andy (you’ll hear Andy before you see him!).
3.Guide or driver accompanies you at every location
This is where we excel over many of our competitors. Yes, they may offer smaller group tours, but most operate with one driver who is also the guide. Our guides will always accompany our groups, to make sure they get the most of the experience, so you are not left wandering aimlessly! This is especially useful at sites such as Stirling Castle, where you can join our guided tour (although you are free to explore by yourself instead should you wish!).
4.All inclusive packages
One of the biggest complaints about rival companies is that they don’t offer all in prices. This means customers are forced to wait in line to purchase tickets, thus wasting valuable time. Our ticket prices are included in the price so there is no waiting around! At Invergordon, we even offer a complimentary lunch too (we are currently looking into ways of offering this at our other ports too – watch this space!)
5.Smaller groups where possible
Where possible we split the group to make the experience more personal. For example at Brodie Castle (Invergordon tour), we have two groups (so max 24 per group), each with two guides where you get a private tour of the Castle. On our tours from South Queensferry, there are different options at both Dunfermline and St Andrews, meaning the group sizes are much smaller. And in our tours from Greenock, you have different options when you get to Glasgow.
6.We avoid other groups
We typically offer experiences that other companies don’t. For example, no other company offers private tours of Brodie Castle, and at Loch Ness we avoid the crowds by going to a spot that none of the other operators visit! Our mini-cruise on Loch Lomond, is on a boat with a max capacity of 50, and we visit the village of Luss long before most other tours arrive there (a local cafe even opens up earlier to accommodate us). On our tour from South Queensferry, we’ve included a visit to Dunfermline, which is rarely visited by coach parties, and as such offers us a fantastic welcome!
7.We give you extra
We offer lots of extras such as 100% Money Back Guarantee if your ship doesn’t dock, and free cancellation up to 14 days before departure. For 2018, we are also offering free Wifi as standard on all our shore tours. We have some more extras we are going to announce soon!
8.The only 5 Star tour operator in Invergordon
We’ve been awarded the prestigious Visit Scotland 5 Star tour operator award, which recognises our exceptional customer service. We are also 5 Star rated on TripAdvisor too!
So when comparing different tours, see how they stack up compared to WOW Scotland. Yes, you may find they offer smaller groups, but when it comes to service and experience, our tours are second to none!!!
