Calling all Strictly fans! Poppyscotland, a leading charity supporting war veterans and their families, is hosting their very own Strictly Come Dancing (the UK’s version of Dancing with the Stars) in Inverness and we are excited to announce that we are supporting this worthy cause by donating £250.

On Friday 16th March, eight couples will take to the dance floor in Drumossie Hotel and compete for the Poppyscotland Come Dancing title. Local individuals, with no previous dance experience, have been paired with professional dancers from Inverness-based Toe2Toe Dance company and have received 12 hours of dance lessons in the lead up to the event. Each couple must perform two dances in front of judges and a live audience, to be in with a chance of winning the ‘Come Dancing with Poppyscotland 2018’ trophy! There will be other fantastic prizes up for grabs on the night, including one for the fundraiser who has raised the most money for Poppyscotland.

All funds raised go towards Poppyscotland, a fantastic charity that provides vital and life-changing support to Scotland’s Armed Forces. They work hard to ensure a brighter future for veterans and their families, and we are delighted to be able to offer our support.

We caught up with Malcolm, our local friend and fitness coach who is taking part, to find out how his training is going. Malcolm said: “I volunteered to take part because of the great work done by the Poppyscotland welfare centre in Inverness. They have an excellent team there that support a lot of people in a great number of ways.

“I am really excited to be taking part but there is much more to ballroom dancing than I first thought! As a fitness instructor for MacSween Fitness and ActivNess, I assumed I would find it quite easy but there is lots to master. It isn’t just remembering the moves, you have to remember the beats in the music too and make sure each step is perfectly timed.

“I would like to thank WOW Scotland for their kind donation and will hopefully ‘WOW’ the audience with my moves on Friday night.”

Gordon Pearson, owner of WOW Scotland, explained: “Members of the armed forces do such a fantastic job but they don’t always get the recognition and support that they deserve. We are proud to be able to support veterans by donating to this worthy cause.”

We would like to wish Malcolm and all the other contestants the best of luck on Friday, and hope that the event raises lots of vital funds for the Armed Forces community. You can find out more about the event and how to donate on their website.

Remember ‘Keep Dancing!’ and keep exploring the Scottish Highlands!
