After our 5th birthday passed by in a whirlwind of Skye tours earlier this summer, we felt a bit disappointed that we had not organised any sort of celebration. However, little did we know that we would be given much greater cause to celebrate shortly after.
We made it onto the shortlist
We were delighted to hear in September that we had been shortlisted for two categories at the Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards; “Tourism Everyone’s Business” and “Best Outdoor/Adventure Experience” for our Skye tour. Despite our initial excitement, we were a bit apprehensive when we saw who our shortlisted competition was..Johnstons of Elgin and Morag’s Lodge in the first category, and Glen Trek and Skye Adventure in the second. Oh well we thought, a great excuse for a night out at least!
You can imagine our surprise on Friday when, after an evening of dining and entertainment at the Drumossie Hotel, the third winner of the night was announced, in the Tourism Everyone’s Business category. Yes, you guessed it, WOW Scotland!
Tony Singh, celebrity chef and MC for the evening, said that the judges felt; “From a modest start, this business has become well-established and is moving with the times. With a very good reputation wherever it goes, it has become a high-end visitor experience of quality, with committed staff who are passionate about the products offered throughout the Highlands and Skye. The success of this company reflects upon all others with whom it collaborates.”
For those who are wondering what “Tourism Everyone’s Business” means, this award category “celebrates partnerships, collaborations and team working in delivering extraordinary customer satisfaction and a real Scottish welcome. This is the category for tourism businesses with new and innovative campaigns inspiring and encouraging best practice, customer service and drive to offer a great and collaborative experience to every guest.”
So, we would like to thank all of our staff (Sandy, Paul, Caroline, David, Jonathan, Juliet, Ken and Zane) and all of our partners, particularly D & E Coaches and Elizabeth Yule, for enabling us to triumph in this category!
We would also like to shout out a big congrats to Skye Adventures, who deservedly won the Best Outdoor/Adventure Experience Award.
Next stop, the national Thistle Awards in Edinburgh in March (the tourism equivalent of the Oscars apparently!). Wish us luck (particularly as we are up against, amongst others, The Home of Golf: St Andrews Links!)
